Belcher Mosaic Company, Residential Panels, 1885

Jersey City, New Jersey

These Belcher Mosaic windows, in resplendent victorian townhouses, had stood against the elements for 139 years, and had more or less survived. Severe deflection, glass loss, and badly rotted woodwork all insisted on intervention. The panels and sashes were meticulously conserved and the art glass was laminated with liquid silicone to an exterior glass substrate, which will serve as both additional structural support and protection in their next chapters of life.
